So to start off right, I have also been couponing thanks to my awesome sister Britt. She taught me the basics of couponing. Here is what she told me:
You get at least 2 papers every Sunday unless it doesn't have any coupons you are interested in. You can check out thekrazycouponlady.com before they come out to see what is included. Southernsavers.com also has an insert sheet that you can print out to see what inserts are coming out which week!
There are also printable coupons that you can find on shopathome.com, coupons.com, redplum.com, and smartsource.com. I check southernsavers.com, krazycouponlady.com, and passionatepennypinchers.com daily to see what the most recent deals are. But in saying that it ultimately takes going to the store(s) where you want to coupon, knowing their coupon policy, and looking at what you have to compare with sale prices.
Another couponing add on is to use mobile apps! I use Ibotta in which you "complete" offers and once you purchase the item you "completed" you take a picture of your receipt and scan the barcode of the item. Once approved the money gets logged to your account. The money can be sent straight to your paypal!
You get the best deal usually when there is a store coupon along with a manufacturer coupon of which you can "stack" together to use on that item. You can obtain store coupons on different retailers' websites, through their rewards programs, and even right at the store. For example Walgreens has a coupon book that they issue monthly that has a ton of great coupons inside.
As far as my most recent trip, it was rather small. I went to my local Dollar Tree and obtained 3 free items, sugar free werthers hard candies, BIC Cristal Pens, and Breathe Right Nasal Strips. I got them all for free by using 1.00/off coupons that I printed from various websites (as listed above).
I will be going again tomorrow and this weekend! I also bought a bag of Natural Choice dog food that you can send in a mail-in rebate form to reimburse you for the cost by sending it in with the upc code off of the bag and your receipt! Can't beat a free bag of dog food when you have a big 80 lb dog like I do!
You can obtain the form here: Natural Choice
